V I T R A L (noun) definition: Stained Glass
Vitral’s colorwork most definitely resembles the appearance of beautiful stained glass windows and is an eye catcher for sure. If you gaze past the yoke for a moment, you’ll notice the lovely hem and sleeve details too, all of which truly make this design so special.
Vitral’s fit is designed to be a bit relaxed and perfect for layering. The body length is moderately cropped, but I’ve included yardage requirements and instructions to add length if that is preferred. The pattern also includes two hemline options … the turned picot hem is shown on Sample 1 and Sample 2, but many of my test knitters have chosen to work the optional 2 x 2 ribbing instead. There’s even an I-cord hem included in the bunch, so be sure to check out all of their projects, here on Ravelry. There is certainly inspiration for everyone!
C O N S T R U C T I O N
Beginning at the neckline, Vitral Pullover is worked seamlessly in the round from the top down. After working the rolled collar, short rows are added to create a higher back neck. Next, a stranded colorwork yoke is knit. To assure patterning is centered, there are two colorwork charts provided on the pattern.
After completing the colorwork chart, additional short rows are worked to finish the yoke shaping. Sleeve stitches are then placed on hold and the body is worked in the round. The body includes additional stranded colorwork just prior to working the turned picot hem. (Optional ribbed hem instructions are included on the pattern).
Sleeves stitches are then picked up and worked in the round. The modest balloon style, bracelet length sleeves also include stranded colorwork just prior to working the I-cord bind-off.
Helpful video links and images are included in the pattern to guide you through many of the techniques used in knitting this pattern, making it suitable for an adventurous beginner.
